Viking SeaTech, a global provider of marine services to the energy sector, has continued its global expansion by setting up a new office in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada.

As part of this growth, the company has appointed industry expert Craig Smith to a newly-created post as Marine Projects Manager to head up increased business activity in the region.

For more than 10 years, Viking SeaTech has been providing services in the region, working in association with its local sales representative NOSO Ltd and this will build on that work.

Craig, a Canadian Master Mariner who has more than 20 years’ marine experience, joins the company in response to growing demand for Viking SeaTech’s services in Newfoundland. This new appointment will see the company deliver a full range of services to clients through its own dedicated local support.

A native Newfoundlander who graduated in Nautical Science from the Marine Institute in St John’s, Craig has a wealth of experience in senior roles. He worked as an OIM for Transocean Canada for a number of years, developing particular expertise in rig move procedures. Before being appointed OIM he gained considerable offshore marine experience in a variety of other positions with Transocean. Prior roles saw him gain experience on a global level in a range of onshore and offshore projects.

Viking SeaTech’s business development plans in Newfoundland will see it directly provide the following services: Front-end marine engineering and consultancy services including mooring analysis; marine assurance, inspection, audits and surveys; mooring equipment supply and associated services, a range of onshore and offshore marine support which will include provision of rig move procedures and personnel and survey and rig positioning services.

John Dick, Viking SeaTech EANA Region Leader, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Craig as we progress regionally and globally. His extensive industry experience will play a crucial role in our plans to grow the business in Newfoundland and beyond.

“As we weather the current industry downturn it’s essential to continue planning for growth and executing our strategic plan. Craig will work closely with his Viking SeaTech colleagues and will offer our current and future customers in St John’s a wealth of marine expertise.”

Craig said: “I am excited to join Viking SeaTech during this expansion into Newfoundland and throughout rest of Canada.  Viking SeaTech’s history and experience as a global leader in offshore operations are a natural fit for the region and I look forward to using my experience to achieve cost effective solutions for existing and new clients.”
