HiDef provide high-resolution digital aerial surveys and consultancy support to help offshore wind developers worldwide build robust evidence bases for environmental assessment and consenting. Founded in 2007, HiDef have flown over 50% of digital aerial surveys for offshore wind farms globally, and flew the first digital aerial surveys for offshore wind in Canada, for the Nova East project.

HiDef deliver digital aerial survey programmes that collect baseline data on the density and abundance of birds and marine mammals at offshore wind sites. We manage the full workflow, from survey design and flight operations through to secure data handling, quality assurance and reporting, ensuring outputs are consistent, traceable and audit-ready.

Our expert review and identification team includes leading ornithologists and marine mammal biologists, and our high detection and identification rates have been demonstrated through industry studies. We turn survey imagery into clear outputs, including interpreted datasets and reporting that can feed directly into EIA chapters, technical appendices and stakeholder engagement.

We support projects end to end, from early baseline data collection and interpretation through to analysis, mapping and modelling, helping teams anticipate and manage environmental risks.
