Epsilon Associates, Inc.

Epsilon Associates, Inc. is a premier US environmental consulting firm with singular expertise in renewable energy projects, especially offshore wind. For over 25 years, Epsilon has provided siting, environmental analysis, and permitting services for numerous large-scale renewable energy and infrastructure projects. Epsilon is a mid-sized firm with offices in Maynard, Massachusetts and Albany, New York, and we have staff members located throughout the US East Coast. Our multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers is experienced in working with public agencies and regulated industries on complex, time-sensitive projects. Since our inception, we have taken on nearly 4,000 projects, including many renewable energy projects, in over 35 US states and three Canadian provinces. Ninety percent of our work is with existing clients or comes through client referrals. The clients who have trusted us with their work represent many well-known, highly regarded companies and government agencies. Our reputation for practical strategies, a focused work effort, and successful project outcomes has made Epsilon a leader in the environmental consulting industry.

Epsilon staff are widely recognized as experts in renewable energy. Epsilon has been at the forefront of the US offshore wind industry since 2017, when we filed the first federal permit application (a Construction and Operations Plan [COP]) for the Vineyard Wind 1 project. Epsilon successfully led this ground-breaking project’s federal, state, regional, and local permitting, and in 2021, Vineyard Wind 1 became the first large-scale offshore wind project in US federal waters to receive all major federal approvals. Following the successful permitting of Vineyard Wind 1, Epsilon served as the lead environmental consultant for several other commercial-scale offshore wind projects connecting into the Northeastern US (e.g., Vineyard Mid-Atlantic, New England Wind, Vineyard Northeast) and the co-lead environmental consultants for multiple projects connecting into New Jersey and New York (e.g., Atlantic Shores South, Atlantic Shores North). Epsilon’s portfolio of US offshore wind projects totals well over 10,000 MW of power.

In addition to offshore wind projects, Epsilon also possesses extensive expertise in permitting marine and coastal projects, including submarine cables, large dredging and disposal projects, beach nourishment and erosion control efforts, and waterfront projects. Epsilon staff routinely assess impacts to the marine ecosystem, other ocean users, and cultural resources from proposed marine development, providing us with a deep understanding of potential impacts and measures to avoid, minimize, and mitigate those impacts. Overall, Epsilon brings a well-established reputation for delivering rigorous analysis, practical solutions, and high-quality environmental consulting services for marine projects under firm timelines.
